Macerata Opera Festival: Sferisterio

The 62nd edition of one of Italy’s great open-air opera festivals, held in Macerata’s extraordinary neoclassical arena. This year: Verdi’s Nabucco (new production), Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Verdi’s Il Trovatore, and Orff’s Carmina Burana as a special event on 7 August. The Sferisterio’s shallow, ultra-wide stage and natural acoustics make this one of the most atmospheric venues in Europe. Seats are close to the stage, there are no barriers, and sunset over the city wall is part of the show. 25 minutes from us.
